2019 Hyundai Tucson: What to Expect

The third generation of the Hyundai Tucson was introduced back in 2015 and had remained relatively unchanged over the next three production years. At least until now. For the 2019 production year, Hyundai went for a full mid-cycle refresh on the model and so when the 2019 Hyundai Tucson made its debut at the 2018 New York Auto Show, it did so with a ton of exciting additions and changes. The following is a quick look at a few of those mid-cycle refreshes and what Chicago buyers can expect to see in the 2019 Hyundai Tucson once it arrives at their local dealership:

New Exterior Facelift For a Touch More Appealing Appearance

If you liked the look of the all-new 2018 Hyundai Kona, then you'll appreciate the exterior updates made to the Hyundai Tucson as it takes much of its exterior cues from the Kona's design. The front end of the 2019 Hyundai Tucson boasts a new angular grille that is offset by similarly angular headlights. The rear end of the upcoming model likewise receives a refresh with displaced rear reflectors and updated layout for its taillights. Overall, the result is a compact crossover SUV that looks a bit more muscular and sports-oriented.

Overhauled Dash & Interior Features

The interior changes of the upcoming 2019 Hyundai Tucson are very apparent with a completely overhauled dashboard set-up that sports a higher mounted 7-inch touchscreen display that is flanked on either side with actual buttons and knobby dials. This is a set-up that's a far cry different from the more shield-stacked center dash set-up that's seen on early third generation Tucson models. The result is a system that's easier and safer for drivers to use and navigate both when they're at a stop and on the go. Also standard is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity to the vehicle's infotainment system and touchscreen display.

Chicago compact crossover buyers looking for a family-friendly vehicle are likely to really appreciate the tech feature upgrades that happened in the back row. That's because the 2019 Hyundai Tucson uniquely boasts a standard second-row USB charger and Qi wireless charging station. This means that kids (and tech-loving adult friends) will be able to keep their devices charged and their selves entertained no matter where or how far the road takes you all.

Refreshed Safety Tech

Another reason behind the changing dash design is the addition of a new electronic parking brake in the 2019 Hyundai Tucson. This is another key driver-oriented feature that pairs well with several of the other refreshed safety updates in the upcoming model. The refreshed Tucson includes a new and more stylish rearview mirror and standard driver assist technologies of Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist and Lane Keep Assist.

Available safety upgrade features now include pedestrian detection, high-beam assist, smart cruise control with stop-and-go capabilities, rain-sensing wipers, a surround view monitor, and driver attention warning. While the 2019 Hyundai Tucson has yet to have its crash test scores from IIHS or NHTSA published, all other models in this generation of Tucson have scored remarkably well and so we anticipate this production year model is sure to follow in their safety-oriented stead.
