2019 Hyundai Santa Fe: What to Expect

Since the very first production model was released in 2000, the Hyundai Santa Fe has reigned as an American favorite thanks to its stellar balance of luxury amenities with safe, reliable driving characteristics. But what really makes the Santa Fe special is that Hyundai engineers are consistently improving, allowing the vehicle to evolve with its fanbase. They have done this before and they are doing it again with the upcoming 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe.

Hyundai is formally debuting the 2019 Santa Fe Hyundai at the renown 2018 Geneva International Motor Show on March 6 but has already released the exciting details of this upcoming model. The following is a quick look at a few of the more exciting features and aspects Santa Fe lovers here in Chicago can look forward to in the 2019 version of the beloved model:

2019 Hyundai Santa Fe: What Chicago Drivers Can Expect

The first thing of note is that the 2019 production line will no longer include the vehicle formerly known as the Santa Fe Sport. The Santa Fe Sport was a midsized two-row crossover that rather made the Santa Fe moniker responsible for two different types of cars: the two-row Sport and the full-size three-row standard Santa Fe. For the 2019 year, Hyundai has said goodbye to the small and hello to big and bold. This model year there is the Santa Fe and the Santa Fe XL.

  • Redesigned from the ground up. Hyundai has completely redesigned the 2019 Santa Fe, giving the full-size crossover a bigger frame and better exterior features. The redesign starts with an additional 2.8 inches in length and body upgrades like more upright body panels and a larger rear quarter glass. Design accents include a sharp crease that connects the new LED headlights to the LED taillights and crosses deeply sculpted doors.
  • Three engines, including a diesel option.   The 2019 Santa Fe comes in three available options: the standard gas-powered, 185 horsepower, 2.4-liter inline-four; a turbocharged 232 horsepower, 2.0-liter inline-four; or, and this is really exciting news, an all-new turbo-diesel 2.2-liter inline four currently estimated to offer 200 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque -- an outstanding choice for those drivers who enjoy dirtier roads and heavier toys.
  • Exciting advancements in the tech department.   The 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe is outfitted with a superb 7.0  infotainment screen that offers both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration. But perhaps one of the most convenient new features in the 2019 Santa Fe (in fact, one that is hard to find in any new models) is the available Qi wireless charging pad that comes installed inside the vehicle so that smartphone users simply drop their phone or similar device on the pad and enjoy a full charge by the time they reach their destination.
  • Full suite of electronic driver assists.  Hyundai spared no expense when it came to the safety of the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe. Buyers of the latest Santa Fe will enjoy access an entire suite of next-gen electronic driver aides. This includes features we've seen in predecessors like automatic emergency braking and rear cross traffic warnings, but there's also some unseen tech. For example, a new feature will temporarily prevent doors from opening when it detects a moving object, like a door or bike, approaching from behind and another feature that alerts drivers if they forget an occupant in the rear seats.
